I once got a notice from my water company about how they will soon let me know how much water my household can use before levying a fine. They were going to use my water consumption from 2013 as an average base and then ask/require that I bring it down by 16 percent. This is the letter that many Southern Californians have been dreading, or have already received.

After all those years of enjoying my pool and outside water features all year round, with never a freezing winter (like other parts of the country and world), I had to consider the Feng Shui implications of not being able to use my outside water.

What will I do? I asked myself because I knew that the flood (all puns intended) of questions would be coming from people who are worried about or already resigned to turning off their outside fountains. One client had already regrettably turned her fountain into a large planter.

Well, I would be inclined to do many other things before filling in my pool or even shutting off my outside fountain. In fact, in the fine print of the water company notice, it said that outside fountains can continue to be used as long as the water is re-circulating. By definition, I don’t know of any fountains where the water ISN’T re-circulating, but mine is also replenished with water from the same drip irrigation system which waters the drought-resistant landscape around the fountain. So, we’re in the clear on that one.

It seems that certain practices would be “punishable” even if someone is within the limits of their total recommended water consumption. For example, even if you bring your water usage down to the required level, if the “Water Police” catch you washing your car without the automatic shut off nozzle on the hose, then you can be fined for that infraction. (This article was originally written in 2017 and when I was living in Los Angeles County).

I used to say that the use of Feng Shui water features, in areas meant to stimulate financial luck, should more than pay for themselves. And that is why I did not shut off my outside fountains or filling in my pool. Rather, I dutifully turned the shower water off when lathering up and I maybe flush my toilet less often. I got rid of the last patch of green grass I had on the property and do a little desert oasis garden there instead.

If you want to research more about the topics of weather modification, controlling the weather, and geo-engineering, (geoengineeringwatch dot org)  there is still fortunately a lot of information which has not yet been censored on the Internet. I mention this because many have come to the conclusion that both the cause of our drought and the way it is being handled could be reversed with current weather modification technology.  Look up Dubai flood 2024 and their cloud seeding program.

And the final important note about outside water fountains is that their pumps actually use very little electricity.  Big corporations should be asked to reduce their consumption before squeezing individual households.
