Once a client finds out about the “locked phase,” some wonder how dire this phase is.
A Locked Phase is a cycle that every house or apartment will go through at some time or another. This cycle, for the Money Lock, can undermine financial luck of the occupants. A “People Lock” will undermine the health and/or the relationships of the occupants.
There are different types of locked phases and they last for different duration. The conclusion as to whether or not the Locked phase justifies moving can depend on several potentially compounding factors. What follows is a break-down of categories and influences to help best estimate whether or not we’re making a mountain out of a mole hill.
DURATION
The biggest locked phase can last for 20 years. If you live in a house that is toward the end of a 20 year lock, that alone is not enough information to go on, to decide to move. Once you get past the long termed locked phase, you could remain in place, knowing that you would not have to experience that locked phase again in your life time. When a 20 year Lock ends, it won’t come back for 160 years for that house.
If you are considering buying a house at the beginning of a 20-year Locked Phase, this can be one feature in the “negative” column to take seriously.
There are also ANNUAL locked phases. The Money Lock and the People Lock will repeat once every nine years. This is not a reason to move out of a house or pass on buying one. There could be some exceptions to this and depending on what stage in life the person is in. For example, if you are renting a house for just one year and it is a momentous year when you have to get something specific accomplished, a feng shui specialist like myself can look into all the influences and see if this is significant enough to justify a move.
I lived in my Los Angeles home for 19 years. During that time, I experienced two years, each nine years apart, when my house was in a one year Money Lock. I got through it just fine, for several reasons, and had no intention of moving.
There are also MONTHLY Locked phases which happen a couple months per year. This is almost never a reason to move either. Likewise, there are DAILY Locked phases which occur several days out of each month. These are never reasons to move, obviously. I only mention monthly and daily locked phases, in order to put them in perspective relative to the annual or 20-year Locked phases.
OTHER FENG SHUI INFLUENCES
There are environments where natural remedies for the Locked phase may exist. As well, there can be man-made, intentional remedies in place to nullify the locked phase. As an example, let’s say your beach house is technically in a 20 year Locked phase based on when it was built and its compass orientation. But the waves lick your deck and you have a view of the ocean from virtually every room. That is a house that never experiences the locked phase because of the sight and sound of water, which is a cure for that.
Let’s say that you have an annual Money Lock on your entire house, which could stall your financial growth. But in the same house, the floor plan works out that for the same year, you have the best annual energies for wealth luck in your bedroom and your home office. This auspicious circumstance could cancel out the bad luck of the annual lock! (And that was my circumstance in the house I lived in for 19 years).
The location of important rooms you spend a lot of time in will help determine if the locked phase will be mild, moderate, significant, or non-existent.
PERSONAL DESTINY
Feng Shui has always been understood within a spectrum of other influences on each of us. Feng Shui addresses our physical environment, but we all have a personal destiny and we also have the ability to be pro-active in every part of our life. Feng Shui constitutes about 20% of the overall influences upon us. When it comes to personal destiny, a person may be scheduled to have the best year of their life (based on personal astrology), and yet if the home is simultaneously scheduled to be in a locked phase, the two aspects will influence each other.
TO MOVE OR NOT TO MOVE?
- Is it a long term or short term lock?
- Are there any other redeeming features to the home’s feng shui?
- Is it easy to place water in locations where you can see it and hear it much of the time?
- Are you in a good personal phase of your life?
