I came to Dr. Lucy for a specific health issue. I had read on-line that acupuncture can help people regain their sense of smell and I thought: who better to consult with than my long time client, who is so highly regarded in the field of Chinese medicine? Once in Dr. Lucy’s office, she wanted a full health history and the consultation became more about healing my whole body, not just my nose. It was one of those days where I knew instinctually that a seemingly “chance” conversation was actually a “sign” that I should pay full attention to.
In having my discussion with Dr. Lucy about all the super foods and supplements I was taking in order to prevent getting cancer like other family members, Dr. Lucy responded in almost a whisper that none of those supplements will do much good if I am overweight. Ouch! Well, I knew what she was saying was true. I knew that just by being overweight, a person increases their chance of getting cancer, diabetes, heart disease or dementia—yes dementia— by about 50%. That moment, I heard her loud and clear and realized that my soul actually went to her office to hear those words. That is why I there. Not just to treat my nose.
I embarked on all her recommendations for acupuncture treatment, Chinese herbs, and a well thought-out food plan, which I could not find any way to criticize or deviate from. It made too much sense. Over the course of about eight months, I lost more than thirty pounds, slow and steady. When I first began, I didn’t even know what a 56 year old woman with lousy metabolism and little time for exercise could even expect to accomplish. I am convinced that the acupuncture helped reduce my stress level among other benefits. And we know that the stress hormone Cortisol can sabotage weight loss.
Aside from having more energy and looking younger and healthier, I noticed that other chronic issues seemed to disappear also. I no longer wake up in the morning feeling the aches and stiffness of inflammation. My feet don’t hurt at the end of the day from carrying around that extra weight.
Additionally, I felt like something dramatic changed in my psyche as well. This was not just another diet. It was a life-changing course re-direction. Being accountable to Dr. Lucy, as my “weight loss” coach, was a wonderful experience and obviously something that had been missing from all my half-hearted efforts to lose weight in the past. I now feel like I can lose a little more weight in the coming year and maintain the weight, in the future. I have embraced the “big picture” regarding my physical, mental, and emotional health. There are so few things in life that we have control over in this world, but I do know that I can control what I put into my body and when to put the fork down. Thank you Dr. Lucy!
