There is a direction in which a person can sleep, which could set the person up for more loneliness than they would otherwise have, were it not for this unfortunate alignment. In my book, The Feng Shui Matrix, it includes a chart titled The Lonely Sleeping Direction. It has also been referred to as “the Lonely Pillow” direction. They are the same thing.
To be clear: when you lay down, the top of your head points toward a direction, like a compass arrow.
To know for sure what direction your head is pointing towards, you should use a good quality compass. In a wood framed house, it is probably fine to do a compass reading inside the house, but usually compass readings are done outside. You would also have to work with an accurate floor plan. Once you know the compass orientation of the whole house, you will know the alignment of all interior walls in the house as well.
This is all based on the premise that when you lay down to sleep and your head points toward a direction, it is like plugging an appliance into an electrical socket. Feng Shui has a lot to say about sleeping directions and what the effects will be. Many of the sleeping direction notions are subjective and hinged to the individual’s birth data. Of course, there are some sleeping directions which are good or bad for everyone. As an example, it is generally superior to sleep against a solid wall and not near a low window.
The Lonely Pillow Direction is determined based on your Chinese zodiac sign and your gender. Due to the current social climate, I do need to say that for this chart, one should refer to their gender at birth, at the DNA level.
How to use this information? What if you find out that you are sleeping in your Lonely Pillow Direction?
First, you see if there is a way you can move your bed to another wall and sleep in a different direction. If that is not possible, then you can begin your sleep session with your head pointing to a different angle than flush with your headboard wall. If you move around while asleep, that is considered okay. As long as you start out (plug in) sleeping with your head in a better direction. Take note that the Lonely Pillow Direction is a 15-degree range. You would not have to shift your body and head much.
The Lonely Pillow Direction could make it harder to find a romantic partner. What happens if you are already in a relationship? What has been reported to me by clients is that the person may find their relationship undermined. Or they may be in a good relationship, but the heart is often longing because the partner/spouse travels a lot or is away from the home for extended periods.
The Lonely Pillow Chart reveals that some zodiac signs have the same Lonely Sleeping Direction. As well, the chart shows that the only potential “lonely” directions are NW, SW, NE, and SE. We don’t see the cardinal directions of North, South, East or West on the chart. And with the other four sub-cardinal directions, the chart reveals that the sectors are in the first and third positions and not the second (middle) range of the direction such as NW1 and NW3, but not NW2. Refer to the compass illustration for these directional zones. I point these things out to make sure readers know it is not a repetitive mistake.
