If I am accused of being too wordy, I will plead guilty to that charge.  Sometimes, however, “a picture paints a thousand words.” When I recommend “earth colors” to clients, they often get a completely different idea, even when I rattle off “any shades of yellow, orange or brown.”  So, to be brief:  Here are some visuals of the earth colors according to Feng Shui.  For brown: Think dirt,  wheat, beige, taupe, milk chocolate, coffee,  caramel, dark chocolate, fudge (okay so I’m obsessed with sweets).

For yellow: Think about butter, bananas, and those lines on the street that you are not supposed to cross or you will plow into oncoming traffic.

For orange: Think about fruit like orange, papaya, apricot, peach, cantaloupe, etc.

Not to be confused with FIRE.  Once an orange color gets saturated, deep, like red brick or into a hot shade, you might be  venturing into the FIRE element instead.

Not to be confused with METAL colors: Once the brown tones become like gray putty, you are venturing into the metal element.

When the real earth element is needed, we reach for things made of clay, brick, stone, terra cotta, ceramics, shells, or natural crystals. When we want to use a complementary color, the earth tones are any variations of yellow, orange or brown, on a large scale, such as wall color, bed spreads, carpeting and big surface areas.
