In Feng shui theory, we can categorize houses into various types which indicate whether or not the home is good or bad for money luck and good or bad for health. The categories can get even more specific, such as predicting what kinds of events and circumstances can take place or affect the occupants.  For example, there are house types that encourage addictive behaviors and there are house types that can attract legal problems.

There are also house types that can make it easy to get pregnant, excel in one’s career and have many other positive things happen for the occupants. There are actually 144 basic house types, based on when they have been built and what direction they face.  For example, a house that faces south and built in 1990 is totally different than a house that was built in 2004 and facing east, even if they have the exact same floor plan.

Of the 144 house types, they can all be sub-divided into four major categories.

The best house type is called “Wang Shan Wang Shui.”  It is considered inherently good for people and good for money luck.  An example of this house type is one which faces exactly east (85-110 degrees) and built between 1944-1963.

The next best house type is one called “Double Sitting.”  This house is considered good for people, not so good for money.  We’re supposed to care more about health and well-being then money, so that is why this house type ranks second best.  An example of this house type is one that faces North between 340-350 degrees and built between 1924-1943.

The third house type is called “Double Facing.”  The Double Facing house is inherently good for money making, but not as supportive for health or relationships.  One example of Double Facing is facing south between 175-190 degrees and built between 1964-1983.

The fourth house type, which is a very common house type is called “Reversed.”  It is the reverse of the ideal house type.  This one can be bad for both people and for money.  But there are millions of Reversed Houses, so it should not be considered very unusual or a stigma.  A common example of a Reversed House from Period 8  was one that was built (between 2004-2024) and facing magnetic southwest between 220-245 degrees.

We can even predict the effects of a house type that has not been built yet!  This is like an astrologer being able to draw up the birth chart for someone when they are given a theoretical time in the future and a definitive place (like a scheduled Caesarean section).

All of these four house types can be enhanced and balanced and it is done on the outside of these house types, with landscaping and water features in specific areas. Once the house type surpasses its original construction cycle, its title is retired and we focus on other features which can remain in perpetuity.
